The Christmas collection

  • Set in an African household in the 1970s or 1990s, A middle-aged couple, Lisa & Joe prepare to attend a Christmas eve service with their little sibling. The child questions their infrequent attendance to church prompting the couple to question their readiness to expose the kid to religious beliefs. Lisa explains the importance of attending Christmas eve the connection to her deceased mother, while Joe expresses concerns about their child developing an interest in faith. As they contemplate the meaning of Christmas, a stranger offers them a ride and engages in a conversation with the child.

    The scene transitions to a stage where a man resembling the biblical prophet Micah speaks about God's plan and the birth of a future ruler in Bethlehem conveying a message of hope and peace. In what seems like a restart of the play Lisa encounters the stranger again, who encourages her to give the service a chance and hints at the potential for something meaningful starting that night

    Overall, the play explores themes of doubt, forgiveness, and the search for meaning in one's faith.. wer of love.

  • Joe: Lisa's husband.. A supportive husband and an agnostic Can double as Young man/Benjamin

    Lisa: Joe's wife, Kid's much older sister. She Hasn't been to church due to past-trauma. A conversation with a stranger sparks the possibility of a fresh start.

    KID: Lisa's much younger sister or brother who encounters Jesus in a dream sequence, but does not understand it yet. His/her desire to go to church led Lisa to an encounter. To be played by a boy or girl (6-9/10).

    STRANGER: Visits Lisa & Kid. Who he is, is revealed at the end.

    CAROLERS: Any cast members not in the current scene. They pass by as they sing a carol twice.

    YOUNG MAN/BENJAMIN: Micah's younger relative

    YOUNG WOMAN.: Benjamin’s wife

    GEORGE: Joe's neighbour offstage. Can be played by Any other cast member backstage with a mic.

DECEMBER’S STRANGER: A 90s Christmas Short.

  • The play opens with music as the people of Nazareth go about their business and a conversation between Mary and a confidante about her upcoming union with a young man named Joseph. After banters and unsolicited advice from neighborhood gossips, Mary is faced with news of her being the chosen one to birth the Messiah.

    The play navigates the effect of the news on Mary’s upcoming nuptials and the response of townspeople to a strange pregnancy rumor. It’s overarching theme revolves around faith, acceptance, and the power of divine intervention. It explores the challenges faced by Mary and Joseph as they navigate unexpected circumstances and delves into their struggles, doubts, and ultimate acceptance of their roles in the divine plan. It also touches on the theme of societal expectations and the importance of trust and understanding in relationships.

THIS LITTLE TOWN: A Christmas Musical

  • In this excerpt, A stammering Shepherd boy’s (Adar) infatuation, lands him in potential trouble with Roman Soldiers. In isolation and in remorse, A voice speaks to him, assuring him of a greater purpose beyond his current circumstances. Adar, with a newfound resolve, is destined to play a significant role in an unfolding narrative surrounding a coming Messiah now come.

    This excerpt showcases the fragility of human interactions and the intervention of a Divine force. Overall, it portrays the interplay between human choices and divine providence. It emphasizes the profound impact of Jesus' birth on the lives of ordinary individuals like Adar. As the story progresses, we can anticipate a spiritual journey for the characters and a revelation yet to be narrated.

  • IGNATIUS (20s): A Roman soldier in Adar's neighborhood, possibly in a relationship with Clelia. He and Cyrus discover a Shepherd boy in their town at a time when Baby Jesus is wanted by King Herod. He secretly fears Herod.

    CYRUS (20s): Ignatius's colleague and good friend. He joins in to make fun of Adar, till he discovers the young lad was a shepherd boy. He also fears Herod, though he, like Ignatius, wishes no harm to Adar.

    CLELIA (18-20s): A beautiful Greek woman, possibly in a relationship with Ignatius. Adar is smitten by her. She is slightly intrigued by Adar, and wishes him well.

    ADAR (late teen): A stammering young Jewish shepherd boy, who saw Jesus' star from afar, and awaits the return of his brothers from Bethlehem. He is smitten by Clelia - an emotion that eventually lands him in trouble with the military. God uses the situation to change him and send him on an assignment.

    DALIA (late teen): A neighborhood girl in love with Adar. She lets slip secret information that lands him in hot waters with the Roman Soldiers. It is unclear whether she is Roman or Greek, though she claims she is from Rome.

  • This excerpt is 10 pages of dialogue and should run about 15 or so mins in production. It is intended to be a short presentation or as part of a Christmas production.
